Evening and Morning Star

The Evening and the Morning Star was an early Latter Day Saint periodical published monthly in Independence, Missouri, from June 1832 to July 1833, and then in Kirtland, Ohio, from December 1833 to September 1834.

This was the first Latter Day Saint periodical. It was initially published in a printing office operated by William Wines Phelps in Independence, Missouri, until the office was destroyed by a mob on 20 July 1833. The publication was eventually succeeded by the Messenger and Advocate.

The publication came in two editions, Evening and Morning Star and The Evening and Morning Star, each contained identical stories. (EMS and The EMS are available as scanned copies at BYU Digital Collections; see here for text only at Centerplace a Community of Christ Website.)
